This is Sarah & her family living in the FLDS community
Sarah Johnson is a strong and courageous mother of 4. She and her children are 6th & 7th generation Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). After growing up in the community and raising her kids as FLDS, Sarah had decided that it was no longer a safe or ideal upbringing for her children. Though she left with a lack of education due to the rules of the religion and no support from the community, she knew it was in her and her children’s best interest spiritually, mentally and physically to leave.
Her goal was to give her children a better future and home where they felt safe. She no longer trusted the fanatic community she once considered family. She knew leaving would take a leap of faith and she was willing to take it. After a long hard year of living on her own with her children, someone told her about the Short Creek Dream Center.
SCDC welcomed Sarah and her children into the program with open arms. The kids have since been able to attend Public School for the very first time. They are now free to learn, grow and make many friends, which they have always desired. Sarah has been able to gain much education herself. Classes on Life Skills, Boundaries, Relationships and much needed therapy. SCDC has given Sarah the peace for her family that they have always yearned for and has taught her how to dream.
She is currently living out her biggest dream, and that is to “provide a safe haven, safe space for her children, to be a lighthouse through the storms of life, and to create an environment of peace, support and love.”
You can help her fulfill this dream! We've set a financial goal for our project for this family! Please, join us in changing the lives of this family by transforming their house into HOME.
"Pen + Napkin is one of the most unique charities out there helping great people transition back into a happy life who come out of extraordinary situations. I love the people involved, the mission, and how founder Catie Bouchard found a way to use her God-given gifts and talents to bless people in such a special way."

Chrisi & Matt Hammer
Chrisi Hammer (Designer) & Catie Bouchard (Founder of Pen + Napkin) met through sharing an episode of The Spillover with Alex Clark. Chrisi Hammer is an Interior Designer in Utah, you may have seen her on HGTV's THE FAMILY HAMMER. Pen + Napkin reached out to Chrisi and asked if she would be willing to do a project in UTAH, to help a family transition into a new home, full of healing and she said yes!!
Thank you to Chrisi & Alex for being such a huge support to Pen + Napkin, but more importantly helping us change lives. And a special thank you to the SC Dream Center for connecting us with Sarah.
