Foundation for the Future

There is an amazing group of designers joining up with the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, serving the Adams family who are tentatively closing on their Habitat home sometime around July 17th. John and Tanya Adams have worked hard to provide for their family and have to story to prove it.

At age 21, John enlisted in the Air Force and learned to replace and repair AC and heating units.  He loved his work and, after serving in the military, was employed by an apartment complex for over 10 years as a maintenance person but is now medically disabled and unable to continue that work. Tanya enjoyed working in cosmetics until the COVID pandemic hit and then became a homeschool teacher for their four children, ages 7 to 14.

Even with some major life setbacks, John and Tanya are determined to show their children that they can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals if they work hard and put their mind to it!  

In Tanya’s own words, owning a home will, “...mean everything to us - to have something we can pass down to our kids. They can see their parents did it and it will be a start to building generational wealth for my family.”

Escaping a poorly insulated, lead paint and mold filled rental home, this family has gained an affordable rental home through the Richmond Habitat program, and are working toward homeownership with them. The Adam’s Family are looking forward to giving back to the Richmond Habitat for Humanity program by working to complete 350 hours of “sweat equity” volunteer time build homes.

With your donations we can provide the safety and permanence this hard working family that have fallen on hard times deserves. We've set a financial goal for our project for this family, but we hope to share the love by exceeding our goal which will result in other families getting sponsored in the future. Please join us in changing the lives of families by transforming their spaces into HOME.
